June 21, 2018:
Over the last couple days we have been very busy and haven't had a chance to write... Sorry! Today we had our learning celebration assembly. Teachers played against students in a soccer game... teachers won! Trustee Hehr came for a visit at our school. We wrote letters to our future teachers. We played kickball against Mrs.Norris class with a special guest from grade 5.
June 18, 2018:
Today was the Pizza Party for environment club. We went outside to play kick ball against Mrs.Norris class for phys-ed. Students not in environment club wrote stories about the environment. In math we learned how to order fractions on a number line. We also had literacy centers today.
June 13, 2018:
Today we did a fraction dance challenge, each time Miss.Cox paused the musics, we folded the paper we were dancing on into smaller parts. We had our dance residency again and will be performing on Friday. In science we learned about the layers of the earth and types of soil. In language arts we staring interviews, we answered interview questions and made some of our own.
Today we continued our dance residency. We experimented with using words such as bounce or wave to make our own dance moves. In math we continued with factions, we used our understanding of equivalent fractions to play equivalent fraction bingo. We had a test on rocks and minerals today.
June 11, 2018:
Today we started our dance residency in gym, we are learning to dance from a real dancer. We looked at equivalent fractions today in math, using fraction tiles to uncover equal fractions. Today we had a quiz on our knowledge from our Ukraine unit. Today was fun lunch! We had literacy centers and wrote about something we are proud of in our learning this year during writing. Ask me about what I am proud of.
June 7, 2018:
Today went to Ms.Macleod and we finished up our landscape and in math we went on a fraction hunt. We are now completely done our eggs and have written artist statements to go with them. In gym we went outside to play kickball. We finished our health unit for grade 4's and the grade 3's finished their SLA's.
June 6, 2018:
The grade 4s continued their health unit and the grade 3's almost finished their SLA's. We had a lockdown practice. We finished our Ukrainian eggs, a few people are still working on this. We played bench dodgeball today. We worked on comparing fractions and equivalent fractions. We also drew our own rock cycles.
June 5, 2018:
Today the grade 4's began their health unit and the grade 3's did their numeracy SLA's. We started our Ukrainian eggs or Psyanky. We also had a class meeting this morning. In gym we played doctor dodgeball. We are working on fractions in math right now.
May 30, 2018:
Today we started learning about fractions. We had science and began looking into the difference between rocks and minerals. In gym we played capture the chicken.
May 29, 2018:
Today we had science and we made coke bottle crystals for science. We are excited to watch our crystals grow!! We finished off our math booklets and corrections. We did literacy centers and had a great day!
May 25, 2018:
Today we had catch up to finish all of our left over work from the week and if we finished we got to have pickles and play math card games, draw or read. We went to library this morning and signed out new books, then a volunteer student read a book because Miss.Cox has no voice. We are learning about pysanky which are decorated Ukrainian eggs. Next week we will be making our own pysanky eggs.
May 24, 2018:
Today we classified more rocks and minerals too. We had Mrs.MacLeod and Ms.Kara this morning for PATHs. In gym we played capture the chicken.We are nearly finished our Ukraine brochures. We went to music with Mr.Goring.
May 23, 2018:
Today we had Ms.Curran come spend social studies with us while Miss.Cox observed Mrs.Greig's class. In math we rolled fact families to learn the relationship between multiplication and division, Mrs.Greig watched Miss.Cox teach. We identified rocks as igneous, metamorphic or sedimentary based on their traits.
May 22, 2018:
Today we had gym outside and we worked on our Ukraine brochures. We had a presentation from the Calgary Public Library about their summer reading program. Thursday night is family fun night. Today was the last day of mentors for Tuesday people.
May 17, 2018:
This morning we went with Ms.Macleod and drew pictures of the big dipper. Today was the last day of swimming. Today was volunteer tea we sang a song that we wrote ourselves. We had to write sorry notes to our lunch room supervisor because we were fooling around at lunch time. We continued our research for our brochures.
Today we practiced our song for volunteer tea, which is tomorrow. We are practicing star wars music with Mr.Goring again. We went swimming, tomorrow is the last day of swimming. We took notes about rocks. We worked on our brochures.
May 15, 2018:
In music we started learning the cup song! We took notes about the different groups of rocks. Ask me what they are. Choir people went to sing downtown. In social studies we are researching Ukraine and learning research skills.
May 14, 2018:
We went swimming today- Remember swimming stuff again tomorrow. We had gym outside today. We finished grouping our rocks based off similar traits. We started our Ukraine brochures.

May 9, 2018:
This morning we had music we started learning part B of our star wars music. In gym we played belly ball again! We continued our rocks and mineral inquiry. We learned more about Ukraine. In Ukraine they make electricity from water. Also gymnastics is very popular in Ukraine. In literacy we wrote about the bravest thing we have ever done. Ask me about what the bravest thing I have ever done was.
May 7, 2018:
This morning we worked on turning repeated addition problems into multiplication questions. In literacy centers we wrote about what it would be like if there was no electricity. It was Seva Food Truck we had salad and pasta... it was delicious! We traveled to the Ukraine, did you know the Ukraine has painted eggs for decorations and dyed boiled eggs for eating. In gym we played Belly Ball which is basically kick ball but instead of running to bases you belly flop on a mat. In science we examined rocks and minerals and came up with words for describing them.
May 4, 2018:
Today we had catch up and pickles. We also played kick ball against Mrs.Norris class. We had language arts and wrote arguments for and against schools having uniforms ( just for fun we aren't getting any ). We visited the library.
May 3, 2018:
Today we wrote diary entries from the perspective of people living in India or Peru. In gym we learned how to play kick ball. We are now almost all done our math multiplication word problem art. This morning we went with Mrs.MacLeod and learned about the big dipper. People in choir are learning three songs and getting ready for their trip to sing downtown.
May 2, 2018:
Today we finished off our testing and building with materials and designs unit by watching a Magic School Bus episode called Under Construction. In music we continued perfecting our Star wars xylophone music. In gym we played reverse dodgeball. Choir also started today. We worked on our multiplication word problem art in math.
May 1, 2018:
Today we had literacy centers. We started our array art. In gym we played olly olly octopus and had a relay race. We finished watching our docu-series on living on one dollar a day. We finished Tales of a fourth grade nothing.
April 27, 2018:
Today we had a spelling test. Mrs.Norris' class came over this morning and we did 3 act math and library with them. We also had catch up and pickles.
April 26, 2018:
Today we went with Ms.MacLeod and continued working on the naturalization area. We painted our bridge relief paintings with our artist. We had O.T time and learned more about the 5 zones of regulation. We continued our social studies lesson and discussed being global citizens and how natural disasters have an impact on quality of life. We had music and learned a new technique.
April 25, 2018:
Today we started making our own multiplication word problems. We are learning about poverty and how it affects peoples quality of life, did you know that 25 percent of India lives in poverty? We are following 3 people seeing what its like to live off only 1 dollar a day. We played capture the chicken in gym. We had music and learned a new way to warm up our hands for playing notes.
April 23, 2018:
Today we went outside for gym and played soccer. We continued learning about India and will be doing a challenge tomorrow. We started learning perimeter and area in math, ask me the formula for calculating area of a rectangle. We started writing persuasive arguments.
April 19, 2018:
Today we finished building our relief sculpture paintings, we are almost done! The artist is amazing and she has taught us so much about art and math. We had math and science together today, looking at testing our bridges, we discovered that some of us were a little bit confused about what makes a bridge a bridge. We had more time with Ms.Macleod to work on the plans for our naturalization area and we also had more time to work with Mr.Goring on our Star wars song.
April 18, 2018:
Today we went to the zoo. We saw... penguins, hippos, giraffes, the gorillas, snow leopards, lions, cougars, red pandas, lemers, zebras and lots more!
April 17, 2018:
We worked with our artist on our bridge relief sculptures again. In gym we continued our jump rope for heart jumping.We finished our Tale of a Fourth Grade Nothing summaries.
April 16, 2018:
Today we met the Artist in residency, we started doing our bridge relief sculptures.We did jump rope for heart timed jump roping in gym. We are learning multiplication, ask me to show you how to solve some multiplication questions. We learned how to write a summary, ask me what this means.
April 11, 2018:
Today we started a new novel study on the book Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, by Judy Blume. In gym we played basketball. We played with the scale in math, finding out what values of non standard units and standard units as well. We had a challenge to see who could find something closest to 100 grams and one student came very close! But not quite... can you find something at home? We also had music and literacy centers. We are now in new literacy center groups.
March 21, 2018:
Today during music we watched a movie, Muppets take Manhattan. Almost everyone is now done their brochure. We had time to work on our bridges.
March 20, 2018:
Everyone is now done their claymation.We are finishing up our brochures. In gym today we started playing lacrosse. We tidies our bins.
March 19, 2018:
Today we went to the Jump rope for heart assembly. We worked on claymation and brochure projects. We had a scavenger hunt with our fun lunch!
March 14, 2018:
Today we worked on our claymation movies, some of us are still finishing our stories and some of us are already on voice over... some are done! Today we also worked on our travel brochures for India, we worked on clothing and the picture of the flag. We had music, in music we worked on our Star Wars music. In problem of the day we came up with multiple equations to reach one answer.
March 8, 2018:
Today we did more planning on our bridge designs. We played more omnikin in gym and had music. We sketched with Mrs.Macleod today. Mrs.Hayes told us about the big dipper. In math we continued looking at standard and non standard units of measurement.
March 1, 2018:
Today we had time with Mrs.MacLeod, we had a literacy presentation. We had gym and played bean bag tag. We had music today. We researched India during social studies. In science we learned about different types of bridges and examined the shapes within them.
February 28, 2018:
Today we looked at travel brochures and noticed what worked well for getting people excited about the country. We read with our grade 1/2 buddies. In music we played a Star wars song on the xylophones. Today was pink shirt day- we talked about bullying and solutions for if you or someone else is being bullied. In gym we had an 'olympic bobsled' race on the scooters. We continued to plan our stories for our claymation projects. In math we reviewed common mistakes from our math check in test.
February 27, 2018:
Today we watched Duffle bag theatre perform a play for us, one our very own students played Cinderella! The play was very funny. We continued our questions about India. In gym we played sandman and zombie tag. We continued working on our story plots. We played a game called robot before lunch. We did problem of the day as well.
February 26, 2018:
Today we took a trip to India on Miss.Cox airlines... ask me about some of the things that I have seen in India so far. Some people started Big brother Big sister mentors. We started planning our story plots for a special project that we are excited to share at parent/teacher conferences. We had a subtraction check in test today, we will hopefully be finishing up subtraction at some point this week.
February 23, 2018:
Today we did a brown bag challenge, we had to build the tallest free standing tower and then we built the strongest tower at least 5 cm. We also did Catch up an Pickles time.
February 22, 2018:
Today we continued curling and got to use the targets today. We are learning about feelings with our O.T Ms.Kara. Today we learned about traffic light emotions (red,yellow,green... also blue). We did drawings with Mrs.MacLeod today of gooseberry bushes. In science we made predictions about which bridge type would be the strongest.
February 20, 2018:
Today in gym we started curling, curling is kind of hard because you have to control how much power your using. In math we wrote our own subtraction to increase our math vocabularies. We got to watch the patrollers play the Hitman in ball hockey! In social studies we discussed what the pros and cons of living in Peru would be. In science we looked at bridges and examined how they can stay up and support so much weight. We had lots of juicy questions about bridges.
February 13, 2018:
Today we looked at artifacts and came up with some ideas about them by thinking like a historian. Today we also learned how to use number lines in subtraction. We made valentines folders... remember NO candy or food please!
February 9, 2018:
Today we did readers theatre. There was two scripts, Aladdin and the magic lamp and Arthurs bad day.
February 8, 2018:
Today at lunch we had Seva food truck, they brought us vegetable pasta and fresh veggies with dip. We looked at the difference between facts and opinions. We also learned about the difference between first, second and third person perspective. It was a chilly day with lots of snow and we were missing a lot of students! Stay warm and be safe if you are going outside or driving :)
February 7, 2018:
Today we learned how to burrow in subtraction. We thought like a historian and examined 'artifacts' from not too long ago... like a floppy disk, ask me what I thought it was used for! We did fitness centers in gym.
February 6, 2018:
Today we started our building unit with building card towers. In social studies we visited a virtual museum and went to Machu Picchu via google maps. We learned how to zen doodle... it was relaxing.
February 5, 2018:
We started subtratcion with a no stress pre test. We looked into being historians and examined some artifacts from Peru from the lens of a historian. In gym we did fitness centers.

January 31, 2018,
Today we started literacy centers. We did an activity surrounding positive self talk and mental health for Bell let's talk day. It was an indoor lunch so we watched some of the Lorax at lunch.

Today we had buddies. We played Omnikin in gym. We did a 3 act math problem with estimating.
January 25, 2018:
We went to the computer lab to do our illustrations. We did a 3 act math task, ask me about it!
January 23, 2018:
Today we looked at the differnet regions of Peru. Ask me about all four! Today we had a test on Canadian coins, we did pretty well and are getting ready for our store. Today we started dance in gym. We continued our stories, some people are at the illustration stage using the storyboard website.
January 22, 2018:
Raz kids is up and running!! Today we had Dance Play come to our school it was very fun. We started writing our circle stories. We learned the value of Canadian coins and bills because we will be having a pretend store on Thursday.
January 16, 2018:
Today in social studies we looked at traditional Peruvian food, we drew and labeled our favorites on a plate. Today we had a math test on triple digit/ regrouping addition. We played dodgeball in gym. We finished our goal setting.
January 15, 2018:
Today we set some new citizenship goals for ourselves for the new year. Today we did Math review jeopardy and came up with 2 truths and 1 story about our Winter breaks to share. We also played Pip, Squeek and Wilbur in gym. We also played hot seat.
December 18, 2017:
Today we made ornaments, we also had social studies and almost finished our Peru research presentations. We had a math regrouping race. We started caroling this morning.
December 15, 2017:
Today was Literacy Day! We made fun crafts to go along with books that our teacher group leader read to us.
December 14, 2017:
Today we had another practice for our concert. We did trade it up with regrouping addition. We read more of wonder. We learned about lake titicaca.
December 13, 2017:
Today some of us finished our mouth sketches. We had a winter concert rehearsal. We did fact posters on elves. In gym we did Moana exercises.
December 12, 2017:
Today we made cards for a fundraiser. Some students shared their powerpoint on animal life cycles. We had an extra music class to prepare for our winter concert. Today in gym we played with the parachute. Our elf fell off the shelf, Miss.Cox had to use gloves to move him into a bed (tissue box) to recover.
December 11, 2017:
Today we started working on putting our Peru research into presentations to share with the class. We are just about finished our animal life cycle presentations and will be sharing these with the class this week! This morning Mr.B showed us security camera footage of the elves being bad and running around the school in a truck! This morning we found Ginger having a camp fire with the other elves. We had an extra music class today to prepare for winter concert. We did a math challenge sheet with 3 digit adding and regrouping today.
December 7, 2017:
Today we did more of our Peru research and Science life cycle presentations. We have a new classmate who will be gradually joining into our classroom, we are very excited about this! Welcome Aiden. We had library and Seva food truck! Seva food truck brought us perogies, salad and chocolate cakes. Last night we set a trap to try to trick Ginger and set up a camera as well! We captured Ginger both on camera and in our trap.
December 4, 2017:
Today we had the actor who played Avery in Charlottes Web com to visit our school and answer questions about being an actor. We also met up with our grade 1/2 buddies. We continued our research on Peru. We had a surprise visitor when we came in this morning, it was an elf on the shelf riding a flying motorcycle. We wrote proposals for what we wanted his name to be and then voted on a name. After we voted we put our results in to a graph and found out it was a tie between Rudolph and Ginger! To break the ties we had another vote and made another graph and discovered that our elves name will be Ginger. Welcome to our class Ginger!
November 29, 2017:
Today we we continued on our animal life cycle projects in science. We also did a math activity where we used metaphors to explain trading up within a place value chart. We played an actual game of hockey today. Ask me how my team did. We started researching characteristics of Peru in groups. Today was also the first day of choir!
November 28, 2017:
Today we researched about animal life cycles and a few of us even got started on our digital presentations. Today we traveled to Peru on imaginary airlines, we met Helen the passport lady/bus driver and Captain Samuel! Ask me one thing I saw, one thing i think and one thing that I wonder about Peru. Today we played 4 corner hockey, we are almost ready to a play an actual game- we just need to learn all the rules!
November 27, 2017:
Today we went on our Saddledome field trip! We had cheese pizza for lunch... it was delicious! We watched the flames practice. We met Mark Giordano and we got to ask him questions! He was pretty cool! Before we left we did Problem of the day and word work. When we came back we played outside for a few minutes before watching a life cycle short movie.
November 23, 2017:
Today we went on our Charlottes Web Field Trip. First we walked around and visited some important places downtown. We saw City Hall, The Olympic Oval and The Famous Five. Unfortunately it was raining but we still had a great time! Our favorite part was Charlotte - she was an acrobat!
November 22, 2017:
We continued playing hockey in gym, we practiced a stick handling drill. We had music and we saw our winter concert songs. We finished Charlottes web today. We learned how to put research into a power point. Mr.M is back to help us with our math, we are so excited!
November 21, 2017:
Today we watched Heartbeat Theatre perform a play for our school. In the afternoon we had a few students from Ms.Norris class join us. We taught the students from Ms.Norris class to play Trade it up! We started playing hockey in gym, today we worked shooting/passing drills. A few of us got the chance to be a goalie! We almost finished reading Charlottes Web, we have one chapter left! Charlotte died :(
November 20, 2017:
Today was the last day of Omnikin, we will be moving onto hockey tomorrow!! We had buddies with our grade 1/2 buddy class. We had a lunch time fire drill. We continued our social studies research and made our first life cycle. We had a Place Value test.
Today we had music, we watched our junk band instrument bands that Mr.Goring recorded. We also set new goals for ourselves, which we are excited to share at parent teacher conferences! We typed up our descriptive beginnings, make sure to take a look at these tomorrow. :) We continued our Omnikin tournament! Red has taken the lead, tomorrow we will find out who the winner is.
November 14, 2017:
Today we continued working on regrouping within the place value hundreds and thousand charts.We are still playing Omnikin and green is still in the league! We read the book thank you Mr.Falker, ask me about the lesson from this book. We continued working on our writing and Social Studies research.
Today we played a place value game called trade it up! This game taught us how to regroup within the hundreds and thousands chart. We continued playing Omnikin in gym... The green team is in the lead! Check in tomorrow to see if another team can catch up. We also had more time to work on our Social Studies research and Descriptive Beginnings.
Today we had our Remembrance Day assembly. We continued working on our descriptive beginnings and our base ten robots. We read a book about poppies and the history of Remembrance Day after library.
